King Eurystheus gave Hercules 12 tasks, known as the 12 labors of Hercules. These became Hercules most famous and dangerous tasks. The first task was to kill a lion that had been terrorizing the town of Nemea. When Hercules got to Nemea and began tracking the terrible lion, he soon discovered his arrows were useless against the beast. Hercules picked up his club and went after the lion. Following it to a cave which had two entrances, Hercules blocked one of the doorways, then approached the fierce lion through the other. Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, and ignoring its powerful claws, he held it tightly until he'd choked it to death. The second task was to kill the Lernean Hydra, a beast that terrorized the countrysides od Lernean. This beast had nine heads, one of which that was indestructable. Hercules traveled with Lolaus and together they found the lair of Hydra. Hercules loured the beast from the cave and began cutting off its heads, only to realize when one was cut off two more came to replace it. Hercules figured out that in order to prevent new heads Lolaus had to cauterize the skin with a flame in order to prevent new heads. This worked and finally Hercules cut off the immortal head and buried it in the ground under a rock. The third task was for Hercules to retriee the hind of Ceryneia, a bronze hofed and golden horned deer who was Dianas sacred pet. Hercules hnted the deer for one year in hopes to catch it and not injure the deer on worries for Dianas rage. Hercules ended up shooting the deer and as carrying the deer to Eurystheus, Hercules ran into Diana. Hercules explained his situation and Diana was no longer angry, she healed the deer and gave it to hercules.
